REVIEW: Manny Grossman's "Maury Terry's 'Witness List'-The JD Cann Debacle..."

Manny Grossman is a self-proclaimed expert on the Son of Sam shootings and has been producing videos on the subject since March, 2021. According to his YouTube "About" page, his channel is "the Internet's only source for true, accurate and sober information on the Son of Sam crimes."

Let's find out.

First we'll go for the the easy layup and then work our way through a couple of other questionable comments and observations made by Mr. Grossman. 

Because this one episode contains a notable amount of information presented in such a way that appears to be less than "true, accurate and sober" and also requires a good working knowledge of the available files (as well as The Ultimate Evil) I'm going to break my review up into sections.

 

Part 1 

At the 31:27 mark, Manny claims the Stacy Moskowitz/Robert Violante shooting "was logged in at 2:32, 2:31-2:32."

After reviewing 363 pages of case files related to the Moskowitz/Violante shooting I'm at a loss as to how Manny can state this "2:32, 2:31-2:32" timeframe for the shooting with confidence (later restated by Manny as, "2:32-2:33").   

In fact, we have an official log right here. This is page 147 of the Special Investigation File (linked above) for Moskowitz and Violante, filed by Detective Falotico:

Eye witness Tommy Zaino only started observing the suspect around 2:35 and has him running from the scene at 2:45am (pg 294):

 

 

Random observation while putting this section together: Manny has stated several times that the police in New York did a stellar job in this case. So why is he taking issue with their search for a yellow VW?

Part 2

Next, let's take a closer look at the (full) description of the car chase which occurred near the scene of the Moskowitz shooting as told by by Alan Masters.

Manny presented two pages from a file that can be found on the People Vs. David Berkowitz website, pages 9 and 11, which contain a portion of the Alan Masters statement.

 

 

Of particular interest to Manny was the time noted on page 11, “5 minutes to 3am.”

Manny said he “skipped a bunch of pages” (34:26 mark) but in reality it was only one from the Alan Masters statement, which is on page 10 of the .pdf.

Alan Masters was in the middle of recounting a car chase involving a person who some believe to be a Son of Sam suspect. It was noted that the time at one point of the pursuit was "0245 hours"

 

Later in the chase, Masters checked his watch and saw it was "5 min to 3am". This is the conclusion of the statement on page 11.

 

 

By Manny's reckoning, one witness, a beautician, saw the yellow VW at 2:45am, Masters saw it at 2:55am and therefore there's no way the yellow VW driver could be a suspect because he thinks the shooting was logged anywhere from 2:31-2:33am. 

The problem is that's not exactly what Alan said. Masters noted the time of 2:45 on the page Manny skipped, close to the time Tommy Zaino saw the shooter running from the crime scene.

Some might call not presenting page 10 because it doesn't support a faulty timeline "cherry picking".

 

Part 3

While reviewing the witness statement provided by Alan Masters following the Moskowitz shooting, Manny asked, "wait a second, I thought it was Wheat Carr driving this [again, the infamous "yellow VW"] and the person had a heavy beard...how come Maury Terry didn't tell us that Alan Masters said the person had a heavy beard?"(34:44 timestamp).

True, Maury left out the words "heavy beard", yet as it turns out Maury left nothing to the imagination and definitely did not personally give the description of a woman - Wheat Carr or otherwise. From page 71 of the 1999 edition of The Ultimate Evil and page 74 of the 2021 version:

 

 

Now ask yourself, how could Masters have seen a "slight cleft in chin" if the suspect had a fully grown "heavy" beard? 

Perhaps Alan Masters meant heavy stubble? 

The notion that a female suspect drove the yellow VW away from the Moskowitz scene comes from David Berkowitz anyway, who is an an admitted liar. 

...

I had a great time tracking down the necessary files and comparing them to the way they were presented.

Also I believe people deserve better from a video series that is touted as "PhD level".
