The Queens DA Investigation Reconsidered (part 1)

Michael Armienti's Interviews Reconsidered

I was reading from The Good Book a few weeks ago when I came across this passage:

This sent me back to The People Vs. David Berkowitz audio files to see if I could make anything out related to this comment in their Darlene Christiansen interview.

(Btw, Something I just noticed while putting files together for this post is that her interview is titled "Tape #1". More on this later.)

For roughly the first ten minutes, the sound quality is terrible, but from what I can make out they're discussing "Reeve Rockman" and ND people associated with John Carr.

At the 19:00 mark we find out who was the source of the urine JC was said to have drank at a party. I only point this out because I take this to mean that Phil Falcon was deeper into the occult than he claimed and likely a leader. He did, after all, have an extensive Western occult library for a guy who claimed to have only practiced "Indian medicine".

However, nothing about an electric chair from start to finish on this tape.

But is there a tape #2? No other single-tape interviews are noted as "Tape #1".

When you play her boyfriend Tom Turkey's interview, which was taped on the same day, it begins with Armienti saying that it is a continuation of tape #1. Darlene's?

Can't be, the conversation is different; Darlene's abruptly ends during a discussion about Phil Falcon, his, ahem, German Shepherd puppies (!!) and her first meeting with Phil. Tom Turkey's taped conversation begins with John Carr getting freaked out about passing cop cars.

Fortunately, we do have a transcript of Tom Turkey's entire interview. It starts off with Tom and Armienti discussing John Carr and his relationship to "Rockman". So no, it's not a continuation of Darlene's tape.

Did Darlene make the statement about the electric chair on tape #2? And if so, what else is on that tape?

Possibly. And then let's not forget about this:

No, the police were not "hot on his trail" as a witness to incidents that occurred at the Carr residence when he wasn't even around. Also, I think Linda would have known if JC was simply spouting gibberish in a drug-induced state.

Something else caught my attention while going through these archives, namely why were there no recordings of David Snyder, Lee Slaghter or Jeff Nies? Lee claimed John Carr knew David Berkowitz well enough to "bum around" Yonkers with him, but Snyder denies it...and yet Jeff Nies essentially confirms what Slaghter said ("...friend of the Son of Sam Killer, they were more than acquaintances..."). Neither Snyder, Slaghter nor Nies were recorded directly, we're simply given Michael Armienti's version of the conversations (and yet Dona Farmer was given center stage for a considerable amount of time?).

To me, one of the most interesting conversations has to be between Armienti and "Roger Flood".

For those who don't recall, Roger claimed to have knowledge of a cult that was involved in the Son of Sam attacks before anyone else.

What I find strange is that Armienti gave a very specific description of the individual who passed the information (wtf?) about Roger's knowledge of cult involvement. Flood even blurts out the name.

By the end of it, Armienti is happy to take Roger's word for it that he knew nothing about any cult whatsoever. We can close the file on that one! One and done strikes again.

Why would Armienti not protect his source better? If Flood had loose lips, I think it's likely that he made these remarks to several people. And why did Armienti let the matter drop? Or maybe he didn't, we just don't have any Queens DA reports to confirm whether or not Flood was let off the hook so easy. Said reports could be collecting dust in someone's attic or crawlspace as we speak. Flood does make an appearance in Maury's notes, however.

Throughout various taped conversations, there seems to be considerable interest in "Reeve Rockman". This is likely due to him having a place in Queens, according to TUE (more on this in a later post). The problem is that they never seem to place him in New York, only North Dakota. Were any of his New York associates interviewed? I would love to know.

When it comes to the North Dakota interviews in general, there doesn't seem to be much interest in confirming a strong link between David Berkowitz and John Carr. Dossenko was never asked, Craig O'Connor was never asked, Linda, Leslie Shwago. One would think this to be paramount.

A lot of people have found it suspicious that Lt. Terry Gardner's tape is so hard to listen to. After all, he was 100% #TeamMaury. However after listening close a few times, it seems he's simply discussing the information David Berkowitz sent to him regarding the occult and the type of aircraft John Carr serviced at Minot AFB. Still odd though.

That's enough of my nonsense for now, thanks for reading! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Queens DA tapes in the comments below.

To be continued...

Comments

  1. Important to note that the book, "Anatomy of Witchcraft," was said to be John Carr's and it is in a prior police report, called in by David Berkowitz 's girlfriend. Not Dee Channel because she was mentioned in the same report.

They should have dusted the book for latent fingerprints. It would have put an end to all of this.

Instead, the book went out of chain of custody, was at Gardner's house, and now it is no longer in Gardner's possession.

Why is there so many chain of custody issues with this case? You know the NYPD misplaced his car, too? Cannot be located after revamping the evidence lot. And it has never been placed through auction.

This case involves capital crimes. Losing his car is a big God damned deal. I want to know if his car was ever dusted for fingerprints and where. I want to know the mileage on the car, because gas was almost .70 per gallon, cost if living was outrageous, his wages were abysmal, and he could not have afforded to drive all the time without undocumented income. Mileage is important to determine how much he was driving. Ot should have at least been documented thoroughly for impound.

    1. Damn. Anon you bring up so many great points…

Nothing collects fingerprints like a book. I would love to know where it went.

If we’ve learned anything over the past few months, it’s that police files can simply go missing, especially right around the time outside parties decide they want a look around. But a whole CAR? Wow.

As for driving aimlessly looking for “fair game”, yes, that auto probably got around 10-12 mpg. Someone slept well that night knowing the car was no longer a factor.

  2. Don't sleep on the Dona Farmer interview.

Yes, she seems to go off the rails in part 3, with the MK Ultra stuff, but prior to that, there are a few names mentioned that are very interesting when you look into them.

    2. My recollection of the Flood interview was Flood told Armienti the source of the story. The statement by Flood that he knew who passed on this information made the information that much more credible. What happened to Flood is he still alive?

      Delete
    3. Hi Jack. Yeah, Armienti said the info came from someone who was, "supposed to be a very well-known sports figure". Which narrowed the field of candidates down to one, whom Flood named.

Unfortunately I can't link directly to the Flood file itself, but if anyone is interested they can copy and paste this url:

    4. We know the source of the People vs./Queens DA site material is predominantly (if not all) Maury's files. Question is - how was Maury able to obtain all those victim/witness/suspect tapes originally? A slip of the Benjamins on Queens Boulevard while noshing on a corned beef on rye at the Pastrami King across the street?

      Delete
    5. I don’t think that’s accurate. I’ve only heard one other person say nearly all of it came from Maury and the person who said it is a serial liar.

From what we can tell, yes, Maury had some police reports in his possession, but not the mountain we find on PVDB.

      Delete
    6. If I was a betting person, I would say the majority of the material on the PVDB site is from Maury's files (acquired through his estate/nephew/Zeman). There is no way that material was obtained though FOIA. Regardless, we should all be thankful that the information has been made public, no matter how it was acquired. Otherwise, it would have never been seen by the masses.

For sure, I'm happy we all have access to them regardless of where they came from.

    5. Manny you're such a putz. The Savino composite drawing looks more like John Gotti than David Berkowitz and 5'9" 160 pounds is way off. You simply speculate that Berkie gained weight. He'd have to purchase new clothes after gaining 30 lbs. You're just such a f-cking putz.

      Delete
    6. Nathan,
I tried to watch that idiocy about the sketches but couldn't stop jumping through because of the stupidity.

The fact this half-a-troon said the "Herman Badillo" sketch from Violante/Moskowitz looks like Berkowitz, and ascribed it's derivation to Cacelia Davis, proves what a dunce he is.

Even Abe Beame said openly that that last SoS sketch looked NOTHING like Berkowitz.

And the fact this is the same sketch that just 18 months ago he was trying to pass off as a sketch of O'Shaughnessy (remember that blast from the past?) is hysterical, considering he truly has zero clue exactly how it was derived.

It was a composite in the purest sense of the word.

      TD

      Delete
    7. The composite drawing and the John Carr pic do resemble one another. So it's easy to see that people speculate. What's so wild?

      Delete
    8. Jack,

Therein lies the problem; many people have taken to using the term "composite" when they truly mean "artist sketch"...and we're obviously talking about two different sketches.

The only SoS sketch that can be called a "composite" is the last one from Brooklyn, as it was an amalgamation of several other witness sketches.

And it looks nothing like John Carr. It looks nothing like David Berkowitz. It looks nothing like any of the others who were speculated to have been the actual shooter over the years.

It was a miscalculation by the NYPD to combine the different witness descriptions from Brooklyn into one sketch...and it resulted in a sketch that looked like Herman Badillo, hence the jokes about it over the years.

As for Luisa's conclusion that "Ski Cap" was just some scared shmuck hightailing it out of Dodge when the shot was fired...well, as Luisa is sure to have heard over the years..."oy vey".

    9. Fundamentally, he is. Absolutely.

I think he set out to take the heat off of certain people and place it all on Maury, but in the process, no pun intended, he has exposed a lot of nefarious people, once-trusted “experts” who had ulterior motives all along.

      Delete
    10. Hey Nathan,

Dyer's Little Squeezetoy has already backpedaled off his "Ski Cap was just an innocent bystander" routine and is now saying the cleaner of the two "Ski Cap" sketches looks just like the sketch from the jogger, which looks similar to Berkowitz. And that switch seems to have Paulie Walnuts and his British mongoloid all irate for some reason...

The Mystery Machine keeps on sputtering on down the road toward the Psycho Circus...Lord help us all.

    12. Nathan,

Not that I've seen...that would scuttle his ability to insinuate they're some groundbreaking Intel that changes everything we thought we knew.

And that's all he has to hang on to.

What all these idiots fail to realize is they've really got nothing at all; there's so much independent Intel out there that corroborates the broad strokes of Maury's investigation...David Berkowitz is, in a way, the least interesting aspect of the entire SoS investigation.

Manny just uploaded them to his YouTube Community page.

He doesn’t seem to understand that the only controversy surrounding the files is that they were heavily edited for Neo’s book.

    14. Yeah, the fact Paulie Walnuts is losing his mind over it is hysterical, though.

What's pretty pathetic is Walnuts' little British mongoloid trying to play a game of oneupsmanship with Dyer's Little Squeezetoy recently as far as who can try to demean Maury more.

As confrontational as I'm known to be, I've never once pissed on someone's grave, so to speak.
